Eltham United Charities

What is Eltham United Charities?

On a site just a few yards from the hustle and bustle of the High Street, Eltham United Charities provides 20 homes for older, retired Eltham residents.

The result of charitable giving going back over 500 years, the aims and objectives of the Fifteen Penny Fields buildings are as relevant today as they were in 1509. The organisation celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2009.

If the appreciation of the occupiers is a measure, then the charity is succeeding as much now as at any time in it’s history.

Grouped around an open stretch of grass, the small homes provide accomodation for individuals and couples which offers them an independent life in a supported environment.

The cloistered atmosphere is a haven from the busy High Street with bus stops, the fire station and shops which are only a short walk from the residents’ front doors.

As well as the homes themselves, there are communal facilities, which include a library, function room and laundry. A guest room has been created to provide a place for friends and family to stay.

Our excellent residential manager has been at the Blunts Road site for more than five years. Their role is to keep a watchful eye over the estate to ensure its smooth running is kept to a high standard and check on the welfare of its residents.

Perhaps John Passey could imagine his legacy would help people in future generations and over 500 years on, Eltham residents still have reason to be thankful for his generosity.
